A railroad town's lots

Midway's core is compact: frame and brick houses from the late 1800s and early 1900s on modest lots along and around Main Street, with the railroad grade itself acting as a barrier that surface water on the uphill side has to get around. Houses close to the tracks can find themselves collecting water from the whole block above them. On those lots the job is intercepting that water with a swale or curtain drain along the uphill property line and carrying it to the street before it reaches the foundation.
